Shawnee National Forest in Southern Illinois is a beautiful place to trail ride. My family has been riding at High Knob Camp Ground since I was 9. It has the prettiest trails in Illinois period. High Knob is 2nd highest elevation in Illinois. There is a hiking observation trail all the way around the top of High Knob the rock formation are gorgeous. Rocky Buffs are on every trail and there are so many things to see. Garden of the Gods is the greatest attraction and you can ride to it from High Knob Camp Ground.

Me and my Mom took the horses for the weekend and seen all this in just 3 days. It takes weeks to see all the Rock formations and stops on the trails at High Knob Camp Ground. Garden of the Gods, The Lookout, Intial Tree, No No Rock, Water Fall Trail, Hurricane Buffs, Whiskey Cave, One Horse Gap are just a few sites!

Make sure the horses are ready for the ride. These trails are rocky and steep. Not for Novice riders or out of shape horses at all!!! You can stay on the river to river trail to stay safe! Make sure to get a map!!!The camp ground has electric and water hook ups. A shower house and no toilets just Out houses. The showers houses are usually dirty so make sure to bring flip flops to protect your feet and lysol spray if you want! Yeah I know yuck!!!!!! but the trails are worth dealing with the nasty showers.
